How the Lionesses' Euro Win Inspires a Generation of Confident Kids
The roar of the crowd, the jubilant celebrations, and the sheer grit displayed by the Lionesses as they clinched the Euro 2025 title – it's a moment that will be etched into history.
But beyond the immediate glory on the pitch, this victory carries a profound message that resonates deeply with what we believe at Happy Confident Kids: the power of confidence, resilience, and teamwork to achieve dreams.
While the celebrations are still echoing, we want to explore how this momentous win impacts young people across the country. It's more than just a football match; it's a powerful narrative about self-belief and breaking barriers.
More Than a Game: A Catalyst for Confidence
The Lionesses aren't just athletes; they are incredible role models demonstrating what it means to be confident, determined, and united. For years, women's football fought for recognition, and the Lionesses' successive European triumphs are not just about sporting achievement, but about changing perceptions and inspiring participation.
Their journey reminds us that:
Confidence is built through challenge: The Lionesses faced tough opponents, went to extra time, and even a penalty shootout. Their composure under pressure, particularly Chloe Kelly's winning kick, speaks volumes about inner confidence.
Teamwork is a superpower: The unity and support within the squad are consistently highlighted as key to their success. This teaches children the invaluable lesson that collective effort and lifting each other up are essential for achieving big goals.
Visibility matters immensely: When girls see powerful, successful women dominating a sport once largely reserved for men, it expands their sense of what's possible for themselves. The "if you can't see it, you can't be it" mantra holds true, and the Lionesses are shining beacons. Research by organisations like EE and Football Beyond Borders has already shown a significant uplift in girls' participation in football following the 2022 Euros win, and this recent victory will undoubtedly amplify that. Nearly one in three girls aged 6-17 have played football in the last year – a testament to this growing impact.
From Inspiration to Action: Nurturing Your Child's Inner Lioness (or Lion!)
So, how can we translate the inspiration of the Lionesses' win into tangible confidence for the children in our lives?
Embrace Sport and Play: Whether it's football, gymnastics, or just kicking a ball around the park, encourage physical activity. Sport teaches resilience, teamwork, and how to win and lose gracefully – all vital components of confidence.
Highlight Diverse Role Models: Point out the Lionesses' individual strengths, their diverse backgrounds, and how they contribute to the team. Discuss how each player's unique talents are essential for success, just like in any group activity or school project.
Celebrate Effort, Not Just Outcomes: The Lionesses fought hard, even when they were behind. Emphasise that effort, perseverance, and learning from mistakes are just as important as the final score. This builds a growth mindset, crucial for long-term confidence.
Foster a "Squad" Mentality: Just like the Lionesses have their "squad," encourage your child to build positive friendships and supportive networks. This sense of belonging is a massive confidence booster, whether it's on a sports team or in the classroom.
Talk About Emotions: Even elite athletes experience nerves and pressure. Discussing how the Lionesses managed their emotions, and showing healthy ways to cope, can normalise these feelings for children and help them develop their own emotional resilience.
Strength in Differences: Lucy Bronze an ambassador for the UK's National Autistic Society, is an amazing example of how neurodivergent people reach the top of their game. By sharing her story, she highlights the importance of keeping an open mind to unlocking the strengths which can arise from difference.
"Everybody is on their own journey," she says. "I think that’s something that’s labelled wrong with autism and ADHD and with all types of neurodiversity — that there's one way to treat everyone or there’s one diagnosis that fits everyone, as though people will all do the same things or have the same traits. It’s very different from person to person.
"Talking to the people around you to help them to understand you and you to understand them requires a lot of patience, on both sides of the conversation."
The Lionesses have not only brought home another trophy; they've provided a powerful, real-world lesson in courage, teamwork, and self-belief. It's a fantastic opportunity to spark conversations with your children about their own aspirations and the incredible things they can achieve when they approach life with a happy and confident mindset.

I absolutely loved watching all of the games just incredible stories . I love the pure joy and the fact that they are happy to be themselves seeing Serena dancing outside Buckingham palace yesterday just in the moment was ace. I also loved the fact that I watched it all with my lad and he was loving every second, that was important to me that boys like mine see strong women achieving against the odds, especially in recent months with some not great attitudes toward women at the moment.. that's another reason why its so important to get behind our teams.!
