Lessons from the Red Roses on the Rugby Pitch
What Happens When You Chase Joy?
Last month, my standout glimmer* was sitting in a packed out rugby stadium full of people all joined in anticipation and excitement for what would happen next.
I was surrounded by a warm, diverse, and welcoming crowd. From couples with tiny babies to excited teens and mature men proudly wearing their “For the Girls” T-shirts, we were all joined in electric anticipation for what was unfolding on the pitch.
The collective sound of thousands of people counting down from five to one before kick-off was exhilarating. This was more than just a game; it was a movement.
Following the incredible summer success of the Lionesses, we have now witnessed the momentum continue as England’s women’s rugby team, The Red Roses, recently became Rugby World Cup Champions! More importantly, these trailblazing women changed perceptions and beliefs for countless girls and boys watching at home. Women’s sport is finally getting the recognition it truly deserves.
The Magic of Seeing What’s Possible
For me, the World Cup was a masterclass in:
Strength & Resilience: Watching these strong women smash through tackles showed the power of persistence and believing you can break through any barrier.
Sacrifice & Pride: Seeing mothers who had sacrificed everything to be on that pitch, then proudly carrying their babies onto the field after the match, reminded us that our biggest loves and biggest achievements can coexist.
Sheer Joy: The most impactful lesson was the pure joy and gratitude on the faces of every player. They were doing what they loved, and the magic of that passion was contagious. You couldn’t help but be swept along in the celebration!
My son and daughter watched the final with me. Although my daughter would definitely prefer to tackle a craft project than an opponent, she still saw the Roses hoist that trophy high. In that moment, surrounded by a roaring crowd, they both saw what is truly possible when you believe in your dreams and chase them with joy.
It’s an incredible reminder that the strongest role models often show us not just how to win, but how to love what you do.

So glad you had a great time! Sport is amazing and seeing these female role models set this amazing examples is very inspirational.
